Living Up to Their Name

Contract machine shops open each year across the country. Few ever take the chance on investing in truly "high-tech" machine tools.
High-Tech Machine Manufacturing, recipient of the 1999 Small Business of the Year for Chesterfield County , VA , took the riskier path by investing in the latest technology available in machine tools today.

Founded in 1984 with one employee, President Bob Cacciotti made a bold decision to grow his small business by investing in two sophisticated, high-tech Swissturn lathes.

Going High-Tech

The two Okuma CNC lathes are the backbone of the High-Tech, but what has really made the company take off are the two Tsugami Swissturn CNC lathes. The Tsugami NP-32 and Tsugami BS-32 were purchased to give High-Tech a distinct competitive advantage in the Virginia job shop market. In fact, High-Tech has never hired a salesman. The company gets contracts based on their reputation which stems from the quality parts they produce and their ability to meet deadlines.

When it comes to turning small round parts, Swissturn lathes are know for their superior speed and accuracy, Swiss, or sliding head stock lathes, are bar-fed acutomactics which use single point tooling to profile the work piece. The turning tool moves perpendicular to the work. It has no lingitudinal movement. Longitudinal travel is carried out by the head-stock. The head-stock grips the bar in a collect and feeds it through a guide bushing into the turning tool.
